ELITechGroup: Decades of laboratory excellence

ELITechGroup S.p.A., part of Bruker Corporation, is an Italian in vitro diagnostics company headquartered in Turin. Operating globally, it develops instruments, reagents and automated solutions for clinical laboratories, with a strong focus on molecular diagnostics. ELITechGroup employs over 200 people and supplies products to 100 countries worldwide.

From the warehouse at its headquarters in Turin (Italy), ELITechGroup S.p.A. ships molecular diagnostics reagents and products to hospitals and laboratories in over 100 countries. Founded as a spin-off of the University of Turin, the company has grown from a local Italian operation into a multinational organisation in just three decades. This expansion made it critical to scale and optimise its logistics capacity and digitalise distribution processes with Mecalux’s Easy WMS warehouse management system.

“Easy WMS enables us to manage materials accurately, ensure high-quality service for our clients, comply with current regulations and maintain first-expired, first-out inventory rotation,” says Mirko Figus, Process Improvement Manager at ELITechGroup. “FEFO is essential for the reagents and products we handle.” At the end of 2022, the company relocated its operations to the Turin warehouse and equipped it with Mecalux pallet racking. Digitalisation became the natural next step to boost productivity.

“Thanks to our current facilities, we’ve consolidated our production, logistics and corporate departments at a single location. The Turin warehouse is central to our operations,” says Figus. ELITechGroup partnered with Mecalux to improve material control, digitalise workflows and boost business growth.

In-house and third-party products

Mecalux’s Easy WMS tracks the exact location of each of ELITechGroup’s 2,500 SKUs. It organises orders based on criteria such as production batch and expiry date. ELITechGroup manufactures and markets automated solutions and reagents for molecular diagnostics. Some products consist of

laboratory systems and equipment sourced from Italian and international suppliers, while others are in-house chemical products used for analysis. These materials are kept at different temperatures in refrigerators and freezers located throughout the warehouse according to their storage requirements. Easy WMS ensures precise management of all operational constraints.

The software provides ELITechGroup with the support it needs to meet customer requirements, prioritising orders based on urgency and criticality. Each order is prepared individually and with great care. To ensure correct reagent preservation, products are placed in thermal containers selected according to their destination. Given the need for absolute accuracy, picked materials are checked and packed following verification workflows managed by Easy WMS.

With a large-scale daily production of diagnostic tests and numerous inbound pallet deliveries from suppliers, the company is reaping the benefits of its new logistics setup.
