Polímeros y Derivados: Premium materials for industrial applications

Founded in León, Guanajuato (Mexico) more than 65 years ago, Polímeros y Derivados specialises in manufacturing nonwoven fabrics. The business uses a variety of production methods, including dry-laid, wet-laid and air-laid. Its customers span industries such as the footwear, automotive, cleaning, construction and plastic tarpaulin sectors. In addition to supplying high-quality materials, the company provides technical consultancy and comprehensive solutions to help customers maximise product performance.

CHALLENGES

  • Modernise finished-goods warehouse management to increase agility and reduce the risk of errors.
  • Replace manual inventory processes while ensuring that the information captured by Easy WMS remained compatible with internal quality control procedures.

SOLUTION

  • Easy WMS Warehouse Management System.

BENEFITS

  • Elimination of stock discrepancies and improved customer satisfaction.
  • Complete inventory visibility and simplified FEFO inventory management.

Since its founding in 1958 in León, Mexico, Polímeros y Derivados has specialised in developing technologies for manufacturing nonwoven fabrics. The company initially produced components for the footwear industry and has since expanded its customer base to include the automotive, cleaning, construction and plastic tarpaulin sectors, among others.

For years, the business ran its extensive facility with manual processes supported by ERP software. It recently took a major step towards digitalisation by implementing Mecalux’s warehouse management system (WMS) in its centre for finished goods.

Polímeros y Derivados’ primary objective was to achieve total traceability of its rolls of material while ensuring closer alignment between stock on hand and ERP records. By replacing manual inventory processes, the Mexican manufacturer sought to streamline warehouse operations and further strengthen customer service.

Installed on-premises (on the company’s own servers), Easy WMS integrates with Microsoft Dynamics ERP and manages multiple orders daily, each containing up to 40 lines.

One of the project’s key strengths was Easy WMS’s ability to adapt to the business’s two-dimensional labelling system, which differs from the industry standard. Through this personalisation, RF devices capture essential information such as product dimensions, lot number, serial number and customer code, ensuring accurate identification of pallets arriving from production.

Easy S for system autonomy and customisation

In addition to Easy WMS and its Supply Chain Analytics capability, which provides detailed visibility into warehouse performance, Polímeros y Derivados has implemented Easy S. This tool allows the company to configure Easy WMS independently, tailoring the solution to its specific requirements without relying exclusively on external support. To this end, warehouse operators, area managers and key users received specialised training.

Another key priority was ensuring compatibility with the manufacturer’s internal quality control procedures. To achieve this, the data captured by Easy WMS — used in hundreds of warehouses worldwide — was aligned with Polímeros y Derivados’ information management framework.

Thanks to this digital transformation, the company has streamlined the tracking of its large rolls of nonwoven fabric, highly valued across multiple industries for their superior quality. Easy WMS has also replaced the manufacturer’s manual FEFO (first expired, first out) process, previously managed through colour coding. The new digital solution provides a scalable foundation for Polímeros y Derivados’ long-term growth strategy.
