Teamwork leads to success. Gemco International, an Engineering & Contracting firm which is in to the turnkey projects business, and Mecalux, a leading storage solutions multinational, have designed a modern 2,320 m2 logistics centre for the Upper Zakum Offshore Oil Field Development Project in the United Arab Emirates. The logistics centre consists of pallet racks and multi level shelving system for picking with walkways. Both systems stand out for their product accessibility, which enhances goods handling and order processing.
Mecalux has set up 11 m high pallet racks, with nine storage levels, that occupy almost the entire warehouse surface area. This solution offers direct access to the pallets, which is essential for speeding up storage and order fulfilment tasks. Moreover, reserve products for the pick shelves are deposited in these pallet racks.
Order processing is one of the operations of the oil company. For this reason, a warehousing area has been set aside for this work, with 7 m high shelving for picking with walkways. The shelves have been divided into three floors, tripling the useful storage area.
On each level, operators walk up and down the aisles collecting the products for each order directly from the shelves. They follow the order grouping method, which involves putting together several orders simultaneously along the same route.
